With more than 600,000 Longhorns living around the world, the Texas Exes is one of the largest alumni associations in the country. The Controller is a full-time, exempt position responsible for administering the financial activities of the organization in compliance with generally accepted principles of accounting, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger, and the preparation and distribution of financial reporting.
Major Job Functions
- Oversee and/or perform all procedures related to month and year-end closing.
- Reconciliation of general ledger accounts and schedules.
- Preparation of monthly financial statements and cash forecasting.
- Provide all reporting requested by CFO, CEO, and departmental leadership.
- Manage accounting staff.
- Ensure proper internal controls are in place.
- Oversight of accounts receivable and coordination of collections from third parties.
- Coordinate with development staff to ensure proper recording of payments and pledges in accounting application and CRM database.
- Routine reporting to the University of Texas at Austin.
- Fixed asset database maintenance.
- Work with an outside accounting firm on the annual audit and tax filings.
- Review and approval of daily receipt data entries.
- Review and approval of accounts payable.
- Assist CFO with the following duties:
- Annual budgeting process
- Audit, Finance, and Investment Committee meetings
- Other duties as assigned
Essential Job Requirements
- Licensed Certified Public Accountant.
- Thorough understanding of GAAP as well as best-practice procedures and internal controls.
- 3+ years’ experience with accounting software, preferably MIP Abila Fund Accounting.
- Extensive experience with Excel.
- Highly dependable and detail oriented.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Strong written and oral communication skills.
- Strong administrative and organizational skills (ability to effectively prioritize, manage time, and meet deadlines on multiple projects).
- Ability to work and thrive in a fast-paced environment both independently and in collaboration with various departments.
- Passion for working for an organization that is committed to a diverse and inclusive work environment
Other Skills/Abilities/Success Factors
- Ability to attend evening and weekend events
- Experience with Salesforce (preferred)
- Non-profit experience (preferred)
