Thirsty Thursday
The Highland Lakes Texas Exes held its last summer social gathering at Angel’s Icehouse in Spicewood on August 8. The gathering offered members a great setting to discuss the summer and anticipate the fun in the autumn. Angel’s offered a lot of television sets that allowed us to watch the Summer Olympics from Paris. (UT athletes won 16 gold medals there.)
We had strong attendance with twenty-four people signing in to the meeting. Also, we raised money toward the academic scholarships to UT that will be awarded to UT-bound high school seniors next spring.
Game Watching Parties
So far, so good. UT is 2-0 when we hold a game watching party. On September 7, we met at Double Horn Brewing Company in Marble Falls to watch Texas play Michigan in Ann Arbor. The Horns prevailed, 31-12, and the group had lots of fun watching the game. We had really good attendance as 37 attended the party and we raised $302 toward the academic scholarships.
We moved the party to Hiccups Sports Bar & Grill in Cottonwood Shores for the October 12 contest between UT and OU. Texas rebounded from a slow start, trailing for the first time this season, 3-0, before scoring 34 unanswered points to win, 34-3. Once more, we had fun watching this year’s football team prevail on national television. Twenty-six attended and we raised $90 toward the academic scholarships.
