Welcome to the Texas Exes Mexico City Chapter!

(Your guide to getting the most out of our community)

Hook ’em! You’re Home Now

If you studied at The University of Texas at Austin (or if you’re simply a friend of the Longhorn community) you’ve found your people. There’s a 50% chance you’ve joined in the last 3 months, as our community is growing exponentially. But even if you’re one of our founders from 60 years ago (true story!), you’ll find this guide enlightening... so much has changed.

Let’s begin with our mission, simple yet powerful:

To unite alumni and friends of UT Austin in Mexico City, fostering a strong and engaged community that strengthens the university's presence in Mexico, supports alumni in their personal and professional growth, contributes meaningfully to society, and proudly preserves Longhorn traditions far from Austin.

Whether you’re here to connect, grow your career, give back, or just have a great time cheering for Texas, this guide will help you navigate all the spaces, channels, and opportunities available to you as part of our Chapter.

Our Five Main Purposes

  1. Connect alumni and friends through the Chapter
  2. Champion UT Austin and its presence in Mexico
  3. Support alumni in their personal and professional journey
  4. Give back to our community
  5. Keep Longhorn traditions alive

1. Start Here: Monthly Breakfasts

If it’s been a while since you last connected (or even if it hasn’t), the best entry point to the community is our monthly breakfast:

📅 When: The second Tuesday of every month
📍 Where: Campo Marte, 8:00 a.m. sharp
🔗 Calendar: https://luma.com/texasexescdmx?tag=breakfasts

These breakfasts have a relaxed, friendly vibe — perfect for reconnecting, meeting new people, and staying up to date with what’s happening. Each one features a guest talk by a subject matter expert, and this is also where we first announce new initiatives and upcoming events.

You’ll meet the Chapter President and Board, get insider updates, have your questions answered, and, if you want, be added to our WhatsApp community that same day.

2. Join the WhatsApp Community

Once you’ve joined us at breakfast, the next step is to become part of our Texas Exes WhatsApp Community, home to 500+ members and several active subgroups:

  • 🇲🇽 Mexico City Chapter
  • 🏙️ Monterrey Chapter
  • 🎓 FUNED Alumni Group
  • 💡 “Think & Drink” (graduates of the Master’s in Commercialization of Science & Technology at UT Austin)
  • 🌎 Ex Alumnos UT Austin (cross-chapter conversation)

Each group has its own rules, but for joining the Mexico City group you’ll be asked to register here:

Do so if you haven’t already, because that is the official list of Chapter members. Then you can decide whether you want to be added to the WhatsApp group... but if you choose to join, we’ll use your registration to craft a warm, personalized introduction so you feel right at home.

💬 Languages: Spanish and English are both used freely.
🧭 Pro tip: Keep conversations meaningful—avoid unrelated memes or viral forwards.

3. Dive Deeper: SIGs (Special Interest Groups)

SIGs are where things get really interesting.

They’re focused WhatsApp groups where you can connect over shared passions or professional themes—so that your question about venture capital doesn’t get lost between birthday messages and game scores.

Existing SIGs include:

  • 🏈 UT Sports
  • 🤝 Networking & Work Opportunities
  • 🚀 Entrepreneurship
  • 🎉 Social & Lifestyle
  • 💖 Giving Back & Social Impact

And yes, there’s even a “SIG of SIGs” where you can get guidance to start your own—for example, Golf, Fitness & Health, Birdwatching, or anything else you’re passionate about.

These groups are where you can truly tailor your experience. Add yourself to all that may interest you (they don’t need registration) and if you join one, participate! Don’t expect just to receive content; your voice makes the group valuable.

4. Stay in the Loop: Social Networks

Follow us on LinkedIn and Facebook to stay connected between events. We use them to share updates, announcements, and interesting stories we don’t want to overload your phone with.

Both platforms will soon feature differentiated content, so it’s worth following both! Other social networks will be added soon, so don’t think we’re that old-school!

5. Explore Events: Our Luma Calendar

Our official calendar lives at https://luma.com/texasexescdmx.

Here you’ll find everything from breakfasts and webinars to outdoor gatherings and watch parties. Each event is conveniently tagged so you can easily spot what interests you:

  • Networking & Social
  • Outdoors
  • Texas-Related
  • Watch Parties
  • Breakfasts
  • Fight Club (yes, that Fight Club... more below)

The calendar is also where you’ll register for all events and pay if required, so we’ve moved beyond spreadsheets and WhatsApp confirmations!

Some listings come from other organizations we collaborate with, but those marked “By Texas Exes Mexico City Chapter” are officially ours.

6. About the Fight Club Collaboration

One of the perks of being a Chapter member is access to exclusive Fight Club Networking Events: VIP gatherings known for their high-level guests and excellent ambiance.

They’re selective (yes, they vet every participant), but as a Texas Exes member, you get 50% off with the code TEXASEXES. In both paid and free events, acceptance isn’t automatic, but once inside, expect an unforgettable experience and high-value connections.

7. Beyond Events: Webinars & Collaborations

Our Texas Exes Mexico Webinar Series™ brings UT Austin’s expertise to you, featuring professors, researchers, and thought leaders in dialogue with local experts. We’ve already included topics like Mezcal, so you can imagine how diverse things can get!

8. Bring ’Em Back!

The Chapter has evolved tremendously. Forget what it was 10, 20, or 50 years ago, it’s now more dynamic, inclusive, and connected than ever. And we have more ideas and initiatives than you can imagine, but to make them a reality, we need the numbers!

That’s why we’ve launched #BringEmBack, a campaign to reconnect with Longhorns who’ve been away.

After registering to any breakfast, you’ll find an “Invite a Friend” button. For each new person you bring, you’ll earn 1 point:

  • 🎁 3 points = free breakfast
  • 🎉 More points = UT Co-op merchandise straight from Austin!

It’s our way of saying thank you for helping us grow.

Final Words

You’re not just joining a club, you’re joining a movement of passionate Longhorns shaping the future of our university’s presence in Mexico and beyond.

Participate. Connect. Help us #BringEmBack. And most importantly:
Enjoy being part of this incredible community.
