Texas Exes Henderson County Chapter/ Derek D. Daniels Endowed Scholarship

Background

Derek David Daniels passed away unexpectedly on October 11, 2010.  It is the wish of his family and friends to create an endowed scholarship in his memory. Derek was a life-long Longhorn Fan and a proud native Texan.  A graduate of Athens ISD, Derek attended The University of Texas from the summer of 1991 until graduation in December, 1993.  While at UT, Derek was a member of Alpha Phi Omega service fraternity, serving in various capacities including President and Flag Coordinator.  After graduation, Derek took the skills he gained in Austin and returned home to Athens, Texas, where he became a business and civic leader.  Derek would be honored to have a scholarship presented annually to a young person from Athens High School who wishes to attend the University of Texas.

Selection

The scholarship recipient will be a graduate of Athens High School who is an incoming freshman to The University of Texas at Austin.  The scholarship committee of the Henderson County Texas Exes will select the recipient.  Both financial need and merit will be given consideration in the selection process.  In the event that there is no applicant from Athens High School in a given year, the Scholarship Committee may consider awarding the scholarship to either a past-recipient still enrolled at UT or an incoming freshman from another school in Henderson County.
