Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award
Recognizing alumni under 40 for significant achievements in their careers and service to the university.
Many Longhorns graduate from The University of Texas at Austin and quickly establish themselves as not just a person to watch in their chosen profession—but extraordinary thought leaders and breakout stars. The Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award was created by the Texas Exes in 1979 to recognize the achievements of alumni, age 39 and under, who have made significant achievements in their careers, community, and service to the university. They are proud alumni who inspire students and peers to put their best foot forward and strive for greatness.
To be eligible, a nominee must be 39 or younger on Jan. 1 of the year in which the award is presented.
2024 Recipients
Celine Halioua
BSA ’17; Founder and CEO, Loyal; San Francisco, CA
Celine Halioua is the CEO and Founder of Loyal, a biotech startup developing drugs intended to help dogs live longer, healthier lives. At Loyal, Halioua leads a team of neuroscientists, veterinarians, biologists, chemists, regulatory experts, creatives, and operators to develop the first FDA-approved dog lifespan extension drug for veterinary use. If approved, the drug is expected to be the first drug approved for lifespan extension in any species. Since founding Loyal in 2019 at the age of 24, Halioua has raised more than $125 million from leading investors including Khosla Ventures, Bain Capital, First Round Capital, and Valor Equity Partners. Halioua is a graduate of the College of Natural Sciences.
Jessica McGehee
BA ’07, Life Member; Bestselling author, writing as J. Elle; The Woodlands, TX
Jessica McGehee, writing as J. Elle, is the New York Times and international bestseller of multiple books, including House of Marionne, Against The Tide, an original prequel novel to The Little Mermaid live action film, and the Wings of Ebony duology, dubbed “an incredible debut” by NPR. Her long list of literary recognition, awards, and accolades spans six novels the prolific author has published in just the last three years. Her work has been translated into over a dozen languages across five continents and continues to garner interest from Hollywood. McGehee writes from Texas, where she lives with so many animals and children, she’s lost count. When she’s not writing, she can be found drowning herself in regency reads and looking for any excuse to wear a tiara. McGehee is a graduate of Moody College of Communication.
Dr. Morgan Micheletti
BS ’10, Life Member; Ophthalmologist, Partner, Director of Clinical Research, and Fellowship Director, Berkeley Eye Center; Sugar Land, TX
Morgan Micheletti, MD, FACS, is a board-certified ophthalmologist, partner, director of research, and fellowship director at Berkeley Eye Center. He has performed over 10,000 surgeries and specializes in cataract, vision-correction, microinvasive glaucoma, and complex anterior segment surgery. He is a medical advisor to over 20 companies, the director of clinical strategy for Synopic, and serves on the board of directors for the Society of Excellence in Eyecare. A serial inventor with six patent-pending surgical devices, including a sustainable surgical blade, electronic lens implant, and glaucoma implant, he pioneered two surgical techniques and created an AI-driven nomogram for ICL sizing. Micheletti has hundreds of publications and lectures, served as an investigator in over 15 clinical trials, and was named to the 40-under-40 ophthalmologists list. As part of his research, he is launching surgical devices to the ISS in late 2024 aboard a Falcon 9 rocket. He also hosts The History of Eyecare podcast series. Micheletti is a graduate of the College of Natural Sciences.
Korey Pereira

Korey Pereira is a professional sound editor for film, television, and immersive media. He was awarded a Primetime Emmy for his sound editing work on Stranger Things and he won a Golden Reel for his work on Prey. In 2023, Korey was elected to his second term on the Motion Picture Sound Editors' Board of Directors. His credits include films from notable directors such as Richard Linklater and Robert Rodriguez. Most recently, he has been the dialogue editor on Law & Order. In addition to his professional work, Korey has been teaching sound for The University of Texas' RTF department since 2018. In 2023 he became the new Audio Area Head. In 2024, he was named one of the "Texas 10" by the Texas Exes. Pereira is a graduate of Moody College of Communication.
