Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award
Recognizing alumni under 40 for significant achievements in their careers and service to the university.
Many Longhorns graduate from The University of Texas at Austin and quickly establish themselves as not just a person to watch in their chosen profession—but extraordinary thought leaders and breakout stars. The Outstanding Young Texas Ex Award was created by the Texas Exes in 1979 to recognize the achievements of alumni, age 39 and under, who have made significant achievements in their careers, community, and service to the university. They are proud alumni who inspire students and peers to put their best foot forward and strive for greatness.
To be eligible, a nominee must be 39 or younger on Jan. 1 of the year in which the award is presented.
2023 Recipients
Kovid Gupta

Kovid Gupta is a film producer, writer, and social activist. He has previously worked with India’s most successful studios, spearheading business development for Vinod Chopra Films and assistant directing Fox Star and Rajshri Productions' Prem Ratan Dhan Payo, one of the highest- grossing Bollywood films of all time. As a screenwriter, he has penned over 1,000 episodes for some of India’s most successful television shows. In 2017, he was featured on Forbes’ 30 Under 30 List, and in 2019 was honored with the McCombs School of Business’ Alumni Rising Star Award. He is the bestselling author of two non-fiction books and holds an MBA from Cornell University.
Dr. Amy Faith Ho
BS ’10, College of Natural Sciences
Dr. Amy Faith Ho is a practicing emergency physician and serves as senior vice president and chief of clinical informatics at Integrative Emergency Services in Dallas. In her clinical practice, she is faculty at John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth as well as an attending emergency physician at Baylor University Medical Center in Dallas.
Ho is a nationally published speaker, writer, and presenter whose work has been featured on NPR, and in The Chicago Tribune, Newsweek, and other publications. Her advocacy has led her to leadership positions in medical organizations including the American Medical Association and Texas Medical Association.
She has a passion for medical humanities and media and has been the featured physician on multiple seasons of the TLC and Discovery Life show Untold Stories of the ER. Ho has also been an entertainment medical consultant on various shows including Rosewood, Bones, and The Blacklist. She also recently wrote a children's book called Is Mommy a Doctor or Superhero?
C.C. Melvin Ike
BS ’07, Cockrell School of Engineering
C. C. Melvin "Mel" Ike is an investor and entrepreneur. He will be launching a new, next-generation investment firm in 2023. Ike was previously a managing director at Blackstone, which he left in 2023 to start a new venture. Before joining Blackstone, he was a Principal at Third Point LLC and an investment professional in the private equity group at TPG Capital. He started his career as an investment banker in the Restructuring Group at Lazard.
Ike earned a JD, cum laude, from Harvard Law School where he was honored with several Dean’s Scholar Prizes. He also earned his MBA with High Distinction from Harvard Business School, where he graduated as a George F. Baker Scholar, was the winner of the John L. Loeb Prize, graduated with the highest academic standing in his class, and was the highest ranked student in the Finance Department.
Glen Powell
’11, Moody College of Communication
Glen Powell is an actor, writer, and producer whose filmography includes roles in films such as Everybody Wants Some, Devotion, Set It Up, and most notably, as the daring-but-cocky pilot Hangman in the mega blockbuster Top Gun: Maverick, where he starred alongside Tom Cruise. In 2017, Powell won a Screen Actors Guild Award for his work in the Oscar-nominated film Hidden Figures, in which he portrayed iconic astronaut John Glenn.
Powell recently received CinemaCon’s 2022 Star of Tomorrow award and was honored as one of Variety's 10 Actors to Watch in 2019. Amid his immense success, he has never forgotten his Longhorn roots and has recently devoted himself to helping Moody College of Communication students interested in film find their way onto sets and into writers’ rooms.
