WHAT IS NEW ABOUT CAMP TEXAS?

  • Spring Camp Texas: for transfer or incoming students who will start their time at UT in the spring semester. A one day event at the alumni center.
  • Lean On Me has become a song that counselors sing to the campers, promoting the mentorship and bond that will be created and last into the school year.
  • Passing of the Flame: a new tradition where a counselor will select one of UT’s core values and give a personal testament on how that value has had an impact on them during their time on the 40-Acres. This signifies passing the light (advice) on to the campers as they get ready to embark on their new journey.

Q: How much does it costs? A: $250, which includes three days and two nights lodging at Camp Buckner, seven meals, transportation to-and-from campus and the retreat site, a Texas Exes Student Annual Membership, and a burnt-orange Camp Texas t-shirt. On-campus parking will cost an additional $30 and must be purchased at check-in.
Q: Why should you raise funds? A: The additional cost of attending camp on top of tuition, books, housing, etc. means that many potential campers simply cannot afford camp.

Q: Do you have a video or something about Camp? A: Yes! 
Q: When did Camp Start? A: Back in 1993, then-UT students Sean Petrie, BS ’93, and Allison Weinstock, BA ’93, were inspired to create the ultimate welcome for UT students. They wanted to build a program that was part-informational, part-social, and part-leadership training.
Q: How big is Camp Texas? A: Camp Texas has grown from one session to 6 with around 1,000 students attending on average.
Q: Does attending CT have any effect on becoming a Texas Ex? A: Yes, about 25% of students who attend CT become life members which a high percent organization percentage to become Exes. This out-of-the-gate exposure to the Texas Exes gives students a  connection to their future almamater before classes start.
