My dad told me to sit down with him as he watched The Daily Show with Jon Stewart one night in high school. Since then, I wanted to work in public service. As I continued to learn more about American history and social issues, I found a passion for using public policy to uplift communities. At the University of Texas, I pursued legislative affairs opportunities at the local, state, and federal levels. Through each of these experiences, I witnessed how policy can help and harm people and I continued to learn about how to serve others through government service. As I prepare to graduate from UT and move away from Austin, I am excited to bring every lesson from campus and from internships into my career.

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program?

The Forty Acres Scholars Program empowers students to achieve more than they previously imagined. As a finalist, I was struck by how the scholarship is so much more than a check. It is a close-knit cohort of other students committed to each other. It is an alumni community of Longhorns dedicated to empowering current students. It is a transformative program. I was drawn to this community and the support that comes along with it.

Favorite FASP Memory:

Before starting our freshman year, my cohort decided that we wanted to stay up and watch the sunrise. While our need to sleep and fear of rattlesnakes (ask Brian Chavez) sent us to bed before the sun came up, I’ll never forget the night we spent stargazing together at Camp Texas. Sitting with our cohort before we all started exploring our different paths and passions allowed us to bond and enter into The University of Texas with strong community. Having the opportunity to go deep with my cohort under the vast sky was such a unique experience that affirmed all of us in knowing that we would find a place for our genuine and true selves away from home.
