Growing up, I would have endless questions about every imaginable topic. Every new problem or event I encountered, I needed to know the "why." In high school, I satisfied this curiosity through my most meaningful activity, debate. Traveling around the country, I was exposed to a barrage of different perspectives on current issues. This activity encouraged me to brainstorm answers, or solutions, to my questions, no matter how unconventional they may seem. The more I explored, I learned that the problems I heard about on the news aren’t isolated events. Similar tragedies, often unnoticed, are happening on an individual scale all around me, and I subsequently sought to alleviate the same issues prevalent in my community. Inspired by the questions I asked in debate, I helped run local nonprofits, tackling issues ranging from the refugee crisis to low voter turnout. While helping my community, I gained an appreciation for nonprofit work and supplemented this with involvement in my school as well. I served as an officer in DECA and Model UN, which introduced me to the intersection of business and public policy. I hope to pursue a career that connects the public and private sectors, and studying on the Forty Acres, with the opportunities it provides, is the perfect way to do so.

What drew you to the Forty Acres Scholars Program?
During Finalist Weekend, it was immediately evident that joining the Forty Acres Scholars Program was much larger than the financial aspect; it also meant joining a tight-knit community of scholars with diverse backgrounds, talents, and ambitions. I realized that it was a community and a program that would inspire me to pursue my goals and guide me through new experiences. With the enrichment stipend and the program’s events, I could supplement my college experience with a truly global education and professional and personal development. Through the doors that it opens and the bonds it helps knit, FASP equips me with everything I need to achieve my ambitions.
