The Texas Exes Tejas Club Campus Leadership Award was established by the Chaney family in partnership with the Texas Exes in 2018. For nearly a century, Tejas Club members have provided stellar leadership to The University of Texas at Austin and have shaped—and been shaped by—the richness of student life on campus. The Texas Exes Tejas Club Campus Leadership Award was established to recognize an accomplished student leader at the university for their commitment to making an impact on student life on the Forty Acres. Nominations will open for the 2021 Tejas Award in January 2021.

An ideal applicant should exhibit the following: 

  • Leadership, integrity, dedication, and creativity.
  • A diverse range of accomplishments.
  • Experience mentoring Tejas Club members.
  • Unselfish devotion to The University of Texas at Austin.
  • A demonstrable positive impact on student life.

2020 Recipient: Adraint Bereal, College of Design

Adraint Bereal is a design major who will graduate with a BFA in May 2020. He has shown the initiative to lead during his time at UT Austin. Bereal has worked with the Campus Chief Compliance Officer as a senior student associate, during which time he both acted as a voice for students on campus to ensure better campus safety and used his design skills to help create a new visual identity for UT's Title IX office. He was also a member of the Undergraduate Mentorship Agency, an organization that bridges the gap between graduate and undergraduate students with mentor/mentee relationships. Bereal was also the associate director of advertising for UT Student Government, creating graphic content for social media. He has held numerous design internships, including Johannes Leonardo in New York City and at UT.
