Paul Begala 

BA ’83, College of Liberal Arts, JD ’90, School of Law, Life Member  


Paul Begala is a political contributor for CNN. He is part of the CNN political team that has won both an Emmy and a Peabody Award. After helping engineer Bill Clinton's presidential campaign with his partner, James Carville, Begala served as counselor to the president. He has advised world leaders in Europe, Latin America, the Caribbean, Africa, and Israel. He helped his friend John F. Kennedy Jr. launch the political magazine George and is the author of several New York Times bestselling books. Begala is an affiliated professor of public policy at Georgetown University and has also taught at The University of Texas and the University of Georgia. In 2012, he was a senior advisor to Priorities USA Action, which played a critical role in President Obama’s 2012 victory. He was inducted into the American Association of Political Consultants' Hall of Fame.

Brené Brown

BSW ’95, Steve Hicks School of Social Work, Life Member


Dr. Brené Brown is a research professor at the University of Houston, where she holds the Huffington Foundation – Brené Brown Endowed Chair at The Graduate College of Social Work. She is also a visiting professor in management at The University of Texas at Austin McCombs School of Business. She has spent the past two decades studying courage, vulnerability, shame, and empathy, and is the author of five New York Times No. 1 bestsellers: The Gifts of Imperfection, Daring Greatly, Rising Strong, Braving the Wilderness, and her latest book, Dare to Lead, which is the culmination of a seven-year study on courage and leadership. Brown hosts the popular Unlocking Us podcast, and her 2010 TEDx Houston talk, "The Power of Vulnerability," is one of the top five most viewed TED Talks of all time, with over 45 million views. When her special, The Call to Courage, aired last spring, she became the first researcher to have a filmed lecture on Netflix.

Craig Dykers

BArch ’85, School of Architecture, Life Member 


Craig Dykers founded Snøhetta, an integrated architecture and landscape architecture firm, in 1989. The studio focuses on well-being, biodiversity, sustainability, and empowering the communities where they work. Dykers has led many prominent projects including the Alexandria Library in Egypt; the Oslo Opera House in Norway; the National September 11 Memorial Museum and the redesign of Times Square in New York City; and the San Francisco Museum of Modern Art in California. Today, he leads the design of the El Paso Children’s Museum and The Blanton Art Museum Landscape Renovation at UT-Austin in Texas, among many other projects. The studio has received honors including the Medal of Honor from the AIANY, the Aga Kahn Award for Architecture, and the Mies van der Rohe Award. In 2019, Dykers won the Texas Medal of the Arts with his wife, Elaine Molinar, a fellow Longhorn, architect, and partner in the studio.

Arleas Upton Kea

Arleas Upton Kea is deputy to the chairman and COO of the Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation. A dedicated and accomplished public servant, she assisted in resolving two national financial crises and received numerous honors, including recognition as a finalist for the Service to America Medal of Honor and serving on a Presidential White House Advisory Committee. A woman of many firsts, Kea was the first African-American to assume significant roles, including her present position and deputy general counsel at the FDIC, president of the UT Law Alumni Association, and inductee to Orange Jackets. She served as a Law School Foundation Trustee and is a member of the Center for Women in Law and Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. Mentored by Congresswoman and professor Barbara Jordan, Kea continues the tradition by mentoring UT students, and is a frequent speaker at Texas Law.

Jeanne Klein

BS ’67, College of Education, Life Member 


Jeanne Klein is a prominent patron of the arts and an advocate for public education. She has a passion for promoting Social Emotional Learning (SEL), which helps in educating the whole child, and has been an active supporter of the UT Elementary School and the Texas Child Study Center for many years. For over a decade, she worked closely with UT’s College of Education and Department of Psychology to spearhead SEL at the UT Elementary School, and to introduce SEL to the Austin Independent School District, which was one of the first districts in the nation to embrace the field’s principles and curriculum. She and her husband Mickey, a 2017 Distinguished Alumnus, are among the nation's foremost supporters and collectors of contemporary art. They have donated works to several museums, including the Blanton Museum of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. Klein serves on the advisory boards for the College of Education, The Harry Ransom Center, and the Blanton Museum of Art.

Gabriela Franco Parcella

Gabriela “Gabby” Franco Parcella is a managing partner at Merlone Geier Partners and president of Merlone Geier Management, LLC. Previously, she spent 20 years at Mellon Capital, and for the last seven years served as the firm’s chairman, president, and CEO, where she provided strategic leadership to all areas of the firm and chaired the Board of Directors. With 25 years of investment management, legal, operations, risk, and regulatory experience, she has dedicated her career to providing investment management services to institutional investors. She also serves as an independent director for Terreno Realty Corporation and as an independent trustee to the Dodge & Cox Funds. Parcella serves on the Stanford Law School Dean’s Advisory Council, the Stanford Real Estate Council, and was formerly a trustee and chaired the Board of Schools of the Sacred Heart in San Francisco. In 2017, Fortune and the Association of Latino Professionals for America ranked her third on their “50 Most Powerful Latinas in Corporate America.”
