The Normandy region of France combines a 360-mile dramatic coastline - including the World War II landing beaches - with a verdant interior of lush farmland, bustling market towns, and historic landmarks such as the cities of Caen, Bayeux and Rouen. Gastronomic delights abound, from fine cheeses and pastries to cider and Calvados. You will visit in the company of UT’s renowned World War II historian Dr. Thomas M. Hatfield. Dr. Hatfield is the Director of the Institute for Studies in American Military History at the Center for American History at the University of Texas at Austin. He is a commentator on military affairs in the national media and sought-after speaker on the war. You may have seen him on the History Chanel or A&E. He inspired and was the principal consultant for Bill Moyers' PBS television documentary, "From D-Day to the Rhine," which Moyers says is the best documentary he ever made. Since his undergraduate days, Dr. Hatfield has found understanding and adventure by going to the scene of historic events. Hatfield has lived and taught in Normandy as well as lectured to numerous tour groups in the region.

You will stay for seven nights at the Grand Hotel de Cabourg in Cabourg, France, with excursions to Bayeux, the Peace Memorial in Caen, the abbey at Jumieges (a Camembert cheese producer), Mont-St.-Michel, Omaha Beach and the American Cemetery.
