Freshmen who apply for Texas Exes Scholarships by December 1 of their senior year in high school, using the University of Texas Application for Freshman Scholarships, will be considered for the following awards if they meet the selection criteria. Emma Agnes Scarborough Adams Memorial Scholarship
For an entering freshman who has graduated from Huntsville High School in Huntsville, Texas. Selection is based on academic excellence (especially in English), moral character, and financial need. ($925/1 recipient)
Christopher J. and Lisa Ferrell Bacic Scholarship
For entering freshmen with financial need who have demonstrated overall leadership qualities, displayed excellence in academics, leadership in extracurricular and/or community activities. First preference will be given to students from the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. ($1,000/1 recipient)
Charles and Mary Love Bailey Challenge Grant Scholarship
African American or Hispanic entering freshmen who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need will be considered for this scholarship. The recipients will be eligible to receive the scholarship for four years of undergraduate work. To continue the scholarships after the first year, all recipients must earn a minimum grade point average of 2.5. ($4600/1 recipient)
Rost Baptiste Memorial Challenge Grant Scholarship
For deserving graduates of the De Bakey High School for Health Professions in Houston, Texas with first preference given to African American students. Second preference will be given to Hispanic students. A new recipient will be chosen each year for a $1,000 scholarship and the scholarship can be continued for an additional three years of undergraduate work if the student maintains at least a 3.0 GPA. ($4,000/4 recipients)
Jane Cook Barnhill and John W. Barnhill, Jr. Challenge Grant Scholarship
For deserving African American or Hispanic entering UT freshmen who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. The scholarship will fund four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient maintains at least a 2.5 grade point average. ($1800/1 recipient)
Black Texas Exes Challenge Grant Scholarship
For deserving African American students who are entering freshmen at UT Austin and demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. Recipients are eligible to receive the scholarship for four years of undergraduate work if they maintain a minimum grade point average of 2.5. ($1800/1recipient)
Grover Black Scholarship
For an entering freshman who shows high academic accomplishment and financial need. ($630/1 recipient)
Richard W. Blalock Memorial Scholarship
For deserving entering freshmen at the University of Texas at Austin with first preference being given to graduates of any MarshallHigh School. Second preference will be given to graduates of any HarrisonCounty or GreggCounty high school. The scholarship can be continued for three additional years of undergraduate work as long as the recipient maintains at least a 2.75 GPA. If no high school graduates from the preferred areas are available for this award, it can be given to any deserving entering freshman. ($1200/1 recipient)
James Neal Blanton, Jr. Memorial Challenge Grant Scholarship
For deserving African American or Hispanic entering freshmen admitted to UT’s College of Engineering who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. The scholarship will fund four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient remains enrolled as a full time student in UT’s College of Engineering and maintains at least a 2.5 grade point average. ($1800/1 recipient)
George Boerger Scholarship
For an entering freshman who demonstrates financial need and a strong academic record. The scholarship can be renewed annually for a maximum of three additional, years provided the student can demonstrate financial need and maintain a minimum cumulative GPA of 2.75. Recipients may reapply. ($2,680/2 recipient)
Herbert G. Boldt Memorial Scholarship
For an outstanding student from Bexar County who demonstrates financial need, integrity, scholarship, and extracurricular involvement. ($1,000 /1 recipient)
Henry Bonilla Congressional/Jamail-Long Challenge Grant Scholarship
For deserving Hispanic entering freshmen that demonstrate academic excellence and financial need. Can be continued for 3 more years if recipient maintains at least a 2.5 GPA. ($1000/1 recipient)
Tomasita Canales Scholarship
For a freshman student preparing for a career in piano performance. Candidates must be recommended by the Music School Chair. ($785/1 recipient)
S.A. and Viola Garza Challenge Grant Scholarship
For outstanding entering freshmen with academic accomplishments and financial need who are both Native Texans and Mexican Americans; one or both parents should also be a Native Texan and a Mexican American. The student must major in civil or environmental engineering at The University of Texas at Austin. The scholarship will fund four years of study as long as the recipient remains enrolled as a full time student in civil or environmental engineering and maintains at least a 2.5 grade point average. ($2900/1 recipient)
Hazel and Jubilo Clements Memorial Scholarship
Awarded annually to the second-highest scholastically ranked senior at Huntsville High School who has been accepted as an entering freshman at The University of Texas for the following fall. ($1,000/1 recipient)
David A. Conway/Robert E. Lee High School Memorial Scholarship
Available to an entering freshman who has graduated from Robert E. Lee High School of Baytown, Texas. Academic ability, achievement, and high moral character are considered. ($1,600/1 recipient)
De Leon Family Challenge Grant Scholarship
Deserving Hispanic entering freshmen in the College of Education at The University of Texas at Austin. The scholarship will fund a scholarship for four years of undergraduate study as long as the recipient remains enrolled as a full time UT student in the College of Education and makes satisfactory progress toward his or her degree. ($1800/1 recipient)
Dow - UT Alumni Scholarship
For entering freshmen or current students that are enrolled in the colleges of business administration, engineering, or natural sciences. Students must be children or grandchildren of employees or retirees of Dow Chemical or subsidiaries where Dow holds an ownership position of 50 percent or greater. First preference will be given to the most academically qualified students. Use UT’s general application, writing "Dow-UT Alumni Scholarship" on the application. ($6,000/6 recipients)
Jackson Albert Dudley Memorial Scholarship
For deserving Native Texans who will be entering freshmen, with first preference being given to students who graduate from high schools outside major metropolitan areas in Texas. The scholarship can be continued each year if the recipient maintains satisfactory progress toward his or her degree. ($1,400/1 recipient)
Almetris Marsh Duren Memorial Challenge Grant Scholarship
For deserving African American entering freshmen with financial need. The scholarship can be received for a total of four years if the recipient maintains at least a 2.5 grade point average. ($1,000/1 recipient)
Mary Ellen Durrett Memorial Scholarship
For an entering freshman, with first preference given to students graduating from Centerville High School in Leon County or Groesbeck High School in Limestone County who are majoring in human ecology. If no eligible students can be found in this preference group, any deserving student majoring in human ecology or natural or social sciences can be considered to receive the award. ($1,300/1 recipient)
Kenneth Ray Edgar Memorial Scholarship
For scholastically exceptional entering freshmen from the Houston (Harris County) area who will study mathematics or science at The University of Texas at Austin. ($200/1 recipient)
Steven Wade Elms Memorial Scholarship
For a current or entering student who has made a significant contribution to The University of Texas and/or to the community through charitable and volunteer activities. First preference will be given to students from the Odessa/Midland area. Applicants should exemplify leadership, entrepreneurship, ambition, and strong ties to family and friends. Financial need will also be considered, and recipients may reapply. ($1,250 /1 recipient)
ESI/Suder Family Scholarships
For an entering freshman graduate of a Texas high school who demonstrates financial need, academic merit, and is enrolled in UT’s school of business, education or natural sciences. The scholarship can be continued over four years of undergraduate work if the recipient maintains at least a 3.0 grade point average. ($25,000/6 recipients)
Dr. Larry R. Faulkner Challenge Grant Scholarship
African American or Hispanic entering freshmen who demonstrate academic excellence and financial need will be considered for this scholarship. Preference will be given to chemistry majors. The recipients will be eligible to receive the scholarship for four years of undergraduate work. To continue the scholarships after the first year, all recipients must earn a minimum grade point average of 2.5. ($1,800/1 recipient)
Anissa M. and Reid F. Friedman Scholarship
For deserving entering freshmen at The University of Texas at Austin. ($5,000/5 recipients)
H. Bascom Funchess Jr. Memorial Scholarship
For outstanding entering freshmen with financial need who have been admitted to the colleges of architecture, business, communication, engineering, liberal arts or natural sciences. First preference will be given to students from Beaumont, Texas. The scholarship can be continued over four years of undergraduate work if the recipient maintains adequate grades. ($6,800/2 recipients)
Eustacio A. Galvan Memorial Scholarship
For graduates from San Benito High School in San Benito, Texas who will be entering freshmen or transfer students at The University of Texas at Austin with first preference given to Hispanic students. Selection is based on academic achievement and extracurricular involvement. ($900/1 recipient)
Bill Garrett Memorial Scholarship
For deserving entering freshmen with first preference given to students graduating from any Waller County Texas high school - Waller High School, Hempstead High School and Royal High School in Brookshire. Special consideration will be given to student majoring in engineering. With a minimum of 2.5 GPA, the scholarship can be continued for another three years. ($920/1recipient
Pete Geren Challenge Grant Scholarship in Natural Sciences
For deserving African American or Hispanic entering freshmen in the College of Natural Sciences at The University of Texas at Austin. Recipients can continue to receive the scholarships for an additional three years as long as they remain enrolled as full time students in the College of Natural Sciences and maintain at least a 2.5 GPA. ($4600/1 recipient)
John B. Giddens, Jr. Scholarship
Graduates of Clarksville Texas High School are eligible to apply for this scholarship. Students should demonstrate academic excellence, good moral character, financial need, and a willingness to do part-time work while in school. Eligible applicants recommended by a faculty member or administrator of Clarksville ISD will be considered by the Texas Exes Scholarship Committee. A recipient can reapply for the scholarship if he or she earns at least a 3.0 grade point average at the University of Texas. The scholarship could be continued over the course of the student’s undergraduate career. ($1,250/1 recipient)
Georgia Gillum-Isabelle Dubar Scholarship
For a graduate of Elgin High School in Elgin, Texas, who has been accepted as an entering freshman at The University. Selection is based on academic excellence, moral character, and financial need. Applicant must be recommended by the Elgin High School counselor. ($575/1 recipient)
