STC > Who We Are

Every Monday evening in the Etter-Harbin Alumni Center, representatives from 22 spirit organizations from across The University of Texas campus congregate to discuss current matters of UT tradition. This powerful display of UT pride is known as the Spirit and Traditions Council (STC).

STC’s founding has created a unique momentum on the UT campus, bringing spirit groups together in a way never seen in the history of the university. STC began in the fall of 2002 when a dozen spirit groups came together and identified the need for a group on campus to unify the spirit community.

Today, STC serves as a unifying body to allow better communication and interaction between the various spirit groups existing on campus. The Longhorn Band, Silver Spurs, Texas Cheer, Student Government, Texas Wranglers, Orange Jackets, and Texas Exes Student Chapter are just a few out of the spirit groups involved in this historical organizational endeavor.

In May of 2003, STC gained sponsorship by the Texas Exes, a relationship council members view as important. “Their sponsorship gives us the stability and resources we need to make our contribution permanent,” said Barry Dauber (STC 2003).

With the full support of the Texas Exes, STC set out to make a significant mark on the university. They began their efforts by reaching out to get incoming freshmen involved.

Although STC is still in its infancy, it is certain the efforts of this group will not go unnoticed. The marriage of the Texas Exes with the council has ensured a new era of success for the unity of spirit groups. There is no doubt that the university’s tradition will be strengthened by this historic council.
