See How to Apply for details on completing the application.
To help The University of Texas at Austin to be more competitive in attracting top high school graduates, the Texas Exes Awards for Scholarship and Leadership were established in 1982. Funded through ten named endowments, awards of up to $10,000 per year for 4 years are given annually to high school seniors in the top 5% of their classes academically who also demonstrate outstanding leadership qualities.
Among these outstanding students called Texas Exes Scholars, the average SAT score is 1400 + and the average UT grade point average is 3.76. Several have received Rhodes, Marshall or Truman Scholarships following their study at UT Austin. Many former recipients have continued their education in professional and graduate schools including those at Oxford, Yale, Harvard, Stanford, Princeton, Duke, CalTech and UCLA. Former recipients can be found pursuing careers in medicine, law, business, engineering, education, pharmacy, entertainment and in a variety of other areas.
This special group participates in many activities and social gatherings hosted by the Texas Exes such as annual spring trips, classic movie screenings, holiday parties, end of semester lunches, and opportunities to meet with their scholarship donors.
Also during their time at UT, we encourage the Texas Exes Scholars to experience the world at large to enrich their studies and broaden their horizons. They can receive $1,000 scholarships for study abroad and/or for non-paying or low paying summer internships.
