The Passing of a Mentor

Lowell Lebermann was well known for his philanthropic ventures and had a large influence on the Texas Exes scholarship program. He and his friend Mike A. Myers became founding donors for the Texas Exes Awards for Scholarship and Leadership in 1982.

Lebermann not only donated funding but his time as well. Every fall, he would invite the scholars to join him on his barge to dine on Chef Donald Wertz’s delicious food and share stories with them. In the spring, Meyers and Lebermann would sponsor a trip in an effort to expose the scholars to new locales and the culture they offered.

His family and friends were shocked by his sudden death on July 9, 2009. They mourn his passing but know that his memory will live on in all of them. In an effort to celebrate this great man, some of the student’s whom he influenced with his generousity, wit, and support wrote tributes to him.
