LBJ Community Service Day and Holiday Happy Hour - Dec. 5th

GPAC's Student Life Committee has organized a day of service for Saturday, December 5th. The Austin Chapter of the LBJ Alumni Association is coordinating with GPAC to invite alumni to participate this year. We invite you, as well as your friends and family, to volunteer at one or more of the organizations listed below and also to join us at The Dog and Duck Pub at 5pm. If you can't volunteer, but still want to join us at The Dog and Duck, please bring a new toy which we will donate to the Austin Police Department's Operation Blue Santa.

Capital Area Food Bank- 20 Volunteers Needed (9am-12pm)

The mission of the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas is to nourish hungry people and lead the community in ending hunger. In its 28th year of service, the Capital Area Food Bank of Texas (CAFB) currently provides food and grocery products to more than 350 Partner Agencies in 21 Central Texas counties. In 2008, CAFB distributed more than 17 million pounds of food.

Sustainable Food Center - 25 Volunteers Needed (9am-12pm)

Festival Beach Community Garden is located on Waller St. between Clermont and Flores, adjacent to the RBJ Health Center. It's just north of the river, and just east of I-35.

From seed to table, SFC creates opportunities for individuals to make healthy food choices and to participate in a vibrant local food system. Through organic food gardening, relationships with area farmers, interactive cooking classes and nutrition education, children and adults have increased access to locally grown food and are empowered to improve the long-term health of Central Texans and our environment. They need volunteers to prepare part of the Festival Beach Community Garden for an orchard.

Coats for Kids (shifts available between 8am - 3pm)
Palmer Events Center, 900 Barton Springs Rd.

Coats for Kids is an annual community project that collects and distributes warm winter coats to eligible children and teenagers in Central Texas. Each year, The Junior League of Austin, Jack Brown Cleaners, KASE 101, and KVUE partner to bring the community together to ensure that the children of Central Texas stay warm. There is a small group going already but they need more volunteers on December 5th to help distribute their coats.

Keep Austin Beautiful: Clean Lady Bird Lake (9am - 11am)
Lady Bird Lake

Love Lady Bird Lake but hate the styrofoam washed up along its shoreline? Join Keep Austin Beautiful, The Trail Foundation, and Watershed Protection Development Review in an increased effort to put the finishing touches on this beautiful asset to our community. Volunteers will have a rewarding morning as they search high and low for every last bit of trash and get to know other lake enthusiasts.

Project Transitions (about 6.15pm-9.30pm and 9.15pm-12am)
Dell Jewish Community Campus, 7300 Hart Lane

Project Transitions is dedicated to serving people with HIV and AIDS by providing hospice, housing, and support in a compassionate and caring environment. They need volunteers to help with their annual Holiday Swing fundraiser. Volunteers are needed for a myriad of activities including waiting tables, tending bar, selling tickets, monitoring and assisting with the silent auction, etc.
