Endowed Awards Endowed Awards: The Gift that Keeps on Giving Endowed awards are a great way to establish a long-term gift, and are a way to honor someone who cared about the University by continuing their passion for an organization or field of study. Setting up an endowed scholarship with the Texas Exes requires a minimum gift of $20,000. The donor(s) can name the award and determine specific selection criteria. Once the award is established, the scholarship is monitored by the Scholarship Committee of the Texas Exes.
The fine print: The principal of each fund will remain intact and will reflect market gains or losses on investments or additional principal contributions. Disbursements will be made only within written guidelines provided by you and agreed to by the Association. Contributions may be added at any time. Corporate matching gifts are welcomed. Checks and matching gift forms should be made out to the University of Texas but designated for a particular fund and then mailed to the Texas Exes. A full year’s earnings must have accrued before it can be dispersed to a recipient. Each fund is accounted for separately, but is pooled for investment purposes. The distribution of earnings will be made on a unit basis to reflect each fund’s portion of the total. The Investment Committee sets administrative fees, which are paid to the money managers and the investment consulting firm for their services. The fees, which are based on the market value of the fund, are taken from the earnings each year and are very low by industry standards. Investment performance has traditionally been higher than that achieved by The University of Texas System. The Texas Exes is exempt under the Internal Revenue Service Code as a 50l (c)(3) organization, so your scholarship donations are tax deductible. All Texas Exes scholarship recipients receive special recognition. They are welcomed to the campus in the fall and their scholarship checks are presented at special and appropriate occasions during the year.
