2010 Golf Championship

    2008 Report

The weather was perfect. Sunny skies, low humidity (at least for Austin) and light breezes greeted the 68 hopeful golfers who arrived Monday morning, September 22, 2008, for the fifth edition of the Texas Exes Golf Championship. Held at the UT Golf Club in northwest Austin, local pro Greg Garner boasted that the course was in the best condition he had seen for some time. As tee time neared, participants boarded their burnt orange golf carts, fully provisioned with snack packs, stocked coolers, special “Texas Exes” golf balls, course maps, and forecaddies, and pulled away from the clubhouse.

The organizing committee once again chose two giveaway items this year. All of the golfers received a white mock turtleneck shirt with the Texas Exes golf logo on the left sleeve, along with a white cap, which also bore the golf logo, but with each golfer’s name embroidered on the back. The caps were very popular.

After about five hours of play, the happy but hungry golfers returned to feast on Poke-e-Jo's barbeque, down a few gallons of iced tea and water, and mosey over to the open bar. Bluebell provided a cooler packed with ice cream treats for those seeking dessert.

The team of Aaron Thorburn and Sean Waggoner took top honors in the gross score division, while Kemp Kasling and Mark Williams won the net score division, a repeat of their 2004 victory. The names of the four winners will be placed on the Tower Trophy that is on permanent display in the Alumni Center.
