2004 Golf Tournament Write Up
First Annual Texas Exes Golf Championship a hit
On Monday, November 8, under sunny skies and temperatures topping 80 degrees, the Texas Exes hosted its first annual golf championship at the UT Golf Club in northwest Austin. With a shotgun start at 10:30 a.m., 46 two-person teams participated in a best-ball tournament with awards for low gross and net scores. Proceeds from the championship benefited the Texas Exes UT Heritage Society.
When the scores were posted, the father-and-son team of Ken McFarland Sr. and Ken McFarland headed up the gross division, with Jack Bergeron and Mark Ohnoutka in second place. The net division was won by Mark Williams and Kemp Kasling, followed by the team of George Maurillo and Scott Garrison.
The names of the winning teams will be inscribed on the new “Tower Trophy,” permanently displayed in the Alumni Center.
As with so many of the Association’s programs, a committee of Texas Exes golf enthusiasts, chaired by Carter Breed, was crucial to the success of the tournament.
