Annual Hex Rally Set for November 23 at Main Mall of UT Campus |
The rally will feature head football coach Mack Brown, strength and conditioning coach Jeff “Mad Dog” Madden, and the Longhorn Football Team. In addition, the rally will feature performances by the Longhorn Band, Texas Cheer and Pom, and others. In keeping with tradition, red candles will be lit to put a “hex” on the Aggies. The idea for the “hex” came from a local fortune teller named Madame Augusta Hipple in 1941. Madame Hipple told UT students that burning red candles before the game would put a curse on A&M. The students took her advice and that year, candles were burned everywhere in the Austin city limits. The hex succeeded and the Longhorns beat the Aggies in College Station for the first time in nine years, 23-0. The Texas Exes Student Chapter was founded in 1998 by the Texas Exes, the alumni association for The University of Texas at Austin. There are nearly 2,000 members in the organization. The Texas Exes Student Chapter connects students to each other and to the past, present, and future of the university through leadership building, campus rallies, social events, and alumni networking.
